A letter to Triathlon Training

Dear Triathlon training,

When I started working with you three weeks ago I honestly dreaded our time together. You are so much more demanding then half or even full marathon training. You require so much more gear to get into, take with me, or make sure is working. You require me to get up early some mornings to run, to swim, or to bike. On some of those same days you require me to hit the gym after work to do one of the activities I did not do it the morning before work. You need me to dedicate at least 6 of my 7 days in the week to getting ready for you in June.

With all that said, I want to thank you! I haven’t dedicated myself to something like this in a really long time. I feel more fulfilled in my everyday. I feel much more accomplished! You have caused me to eat healthier so I can keep up with your training. I sleep better at night because I have worked my butt off for you during the day. I’m more organized because I have to be to make sure I can get my training in.

This morning I was able to do something I have never done before. I have always been a Run/Walker. I typically do 1 minute run and 1 minute walk. This morning while running on the treadmill and catching up with last night’s episode of Bunheads (don’t judge) I didn’t realize until the commercial that I was still running. I had run for 10 minutes straight and was past a half mile. My running is getting faster because of you!!

So thank you for everything you have given me over the past 3 weeks. I think we have begun a beautiful friendship. I see what I have been missing in my training and I think it was swimming and biking.



P.S. Thanks for taking those 2lbs with you also. I don’t think I will be needing those back!
