Ok so about a month ago I found an awesome blog called The Lean Green Bean. It is a great site on its own but it also has this awesome activity called Foodie Pen Pals. Here are the details of the program if you are considering playing next month!
Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions. -You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal! -The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination! -You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!) -Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers.
Now onto the box that I got in the mail. Ok, I’m going to start with I totally have a blog crush on my pen pal, Caren. Visit her blog at Voodie Girl. Besides the fact that I am totally jealous of her living in CA where in my mind it is always the right temp and sunny (I know this isn’t true but hey a girl can dream, right?) I am also totally in envy of her willpower. I just couldn’t give up foods like meat, and gluten, and who knows what else that girl has given up. But go to her page and support her in her bikini competition efforts!
So the great box that she put together for me…
And now the details…
Gluten free oatmeal
Haven’t tried this yet. Although I’m looking forward to it. I’m sure it will stick to my insides with no problem, lol!
Some yummy teas that I really like. And these dutch sprinkles that are like crack!! You are supposed to sprinkle them on buttered bread. Seriously, it is mixing foods that should have been mixed a long time ago! Bread, butter, and sprinkles!! Genius!!
Ultragrain all purpose flour
Ok I lucked into this one cause Caren is gluten free – but this is whole grain/multigrain flour. So far, pretty good results!
North Denver Sausage
Another luck into cause she is also meat-free! I’ll be honest these were not that great. She sent 1 mild and 1 hot. I haven’t eaten the hot but the mild was super hard to cut and had quite a kick to it for being mild. I’m not sure I would want to cook with it since it was so hard to cut.
She sweats this is the most awesome pasta ever. I haven’t tried it yet (keep forgetting it is in my cabinet) might have to break it out this weekend before the long run!!
So that was it! A pretty awesome box if you ask me! If you haven’t go sign up to play too! It really is a lot of fun. I’m not in for October (too much traveling) but I hope to sign up for November!
