How do you deal when sidelined?

For most people running is a form of therapy. I am one of those people. I don’ t have hundreds of dollars to give to some guy while I sit on a couch talking about my life. I do however, have fantastic friends who will listen to me vent while running for free! However, there are those times where I just want a quiet run. I do some of my best thinking while on a trail with headphones on. I can lose myself in thought and figure everything out. For some reason the answers just magically appear at the end of a good run.

So, what do you do when you are stressed out about work and don’t know what to do? You run!

So, what do you do when you are stressed out about work and you don’t know what to do but you can’t run? Don’t want to run? Lack motivation?

This has been my life lately. Work has hit rock bottom with no real light at the end of the tunnel right now and it hurts to run. There are lots of articles that talk about the depression that sets in when you are sidelined from running. I have yet to find one that tells you how to deal with your other life stressors when your usual one (running) is busted.

This sadly leads to a lack of motivation. I’m still doing my arm challenge part of my 12 week challenge but in favor of having a decent race on Sunday I’ve sidelined myself for running this week. I’m hopeful the rest will help me power through what looks to be a humid and rainy race.

Tonight Jon has suggested another date night at the pool and I’m hopeful some deep water can get me out of my funk. I may also hit the heated therapy pool at the gym also for a little extra leg TLC.

What does everyone else do when they need a lift and running isn’t the answer?

And for just a little inspiration some Shrek The Musical!
