UA Sonic Hovr review

Disclaimer: I received an a pair of Hovr Sonic’s to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find and write race reviews!”

I’ll be honest, when I first revceived these shoes I didn’t immediately take them out. I received them about a week before my A race and I was doing NOTHING to mess up my legs. Do you know how hard it is to get new running shoes and not take them for a run?? TORTURE!

I liked that these shoes were similar to the ones I was already wearing. However, I do have 2 pairs that I rotate. 1 pair for speedwork and short runs and then a pair for long runs.

UA Sonic Hovr – 8mm offset – 8oz shoe

Brooks Levitate (my fast shoe) – 8mm offset – 9.9 oz shoe

Brooks Launch (my long run shoe) – 10mm offset – 8.2oz shoe

I typically don’t deviate from my shoes anymore. I’ve had some issues in the past. Since the offset and weight were about the same I figured it was safe to take the chance and try something new!

I have now done multiple runs and workouts in the Sonic and I have to say it is a really good shoe. My first impression when I took it out of the box was that it looked a little “cheap” but they were far from it. I’m just not used to the vented mid foot panel. This knitted upper really does allow for the fabric to move with your foot which seems to lessen the rub. I haven’t had any issues with blisters or anything. Being July in Florida I will say that my feet are WAY less hot in these shoes during the run. If that is something you pay attention too!

I will say that they are a little more stiff than I am used to. They don’t seem quite as responsive as what I’m used to running in. This isn’t to say they aren’t enjoyable to run in. They are light and help with a quick turnover. They are fantastic for HiiT workouts that include running. They hold up really well to the transition from weights to running!

If you are in the market for a new running shoe I definitely suggest checking these out! They have a great price point of $100 and offer quite a lot! I’ve only had about 30 – 50 miles in them so I’m looking forward to putting more miles on them and seeing how they hold up to a “heavier” runner. Give the UA Sonic Hovr a try for yourself and see how they work for you!
